神田川－残花

 

今朝の東京は昨日までの冷たい雨が止み青空になった。そこで、神田川沿いを散歩して残花の写真を撮った。テーマは「最後の一輪（または一枚）」。このテーマだったら、マクロや望遠レンズを持ってくればよかったと後悔したが、結局、標準ズーム一本で通した。

 

歩きながら、ふと「最後の一日」について考え始めた。スティーブ・ジョブズの有名なスタンフォード大学での卒業式講演につぎのような一節がある。

When I was 17, I read a quote that went something like: "If you live
each day as if it was your last, someday you'll most certainly be right."
It made an impression on me, and since then, for the past 33 years, I have
looked in the mirror every morning and asked myself: "If today were the
last day of my life, would I want to do what I am about to do today?" And
whenever the answer has been "No" for too many days in a row, I know
I need to change something.

 

「もし今日が自分の人生最後の日なら、今日しようとしていることをやりたいだろうか？」 そして何日も続けてその答えが「ノー」なら、何かを変える必要があるとわかるのだ。

 

ジョブズは17歳から33年間、毎朝、鏡に向かってこの問を自問したという。凡人には毎朝は難しいにしても、せめて週に一回はこうした時間を持ちたいものだ。
